The Art of Shade

This year's secondary art course starts where we always start: rendering colour, dimension, shape and texture in black and white. This year we are working with pencil on the themes relating to fruit and vegetables - we plan to explore this for most of the first term, as students are taught how to use a variety of media. This apple was chosen because the virtical stripes appear to be more and more curved as you look away from the centre line - showing the students how to create the appearance fo depth.
