Something Worth Reading

A Message from your National Youth Rep

Wow, I can’t believe it has already been a few months into my term as your National Youth Rep! I am so excited about what is in store for me and also you girls for the rest of my term.

One of the big things I have been working on with the youth board is a special national event that I want everyone (and I mean EVERYONE) to be involved in. There will be more information about what this is coming very soon but if you were at Forum in Nelson you may remember what I talked about.

Speaking of Forum… Who had an awesome time? I know I sure did, Nelson did an amazing job at hosting us and it was so great to see a lot of new faces that I hope to see again over many more years.

I also want to thank Sarah for the amazing job and strong effort she put into the role of National Youth Rep, it was so good to be working alongside someone so passionate!

That’s all for now, until the next edition later on in the year.

Youth Forum 2015

Youth Forum 2015 was held in Nelson at Bridge Valley Adventure Centre. The weekend kicked off on Friday afternoon with the opening ceremony. Michael Drake our National Chaplain shared a very encouraging sermon that fitted in with our Nautical Theme. After the opening ceremony everyone got into groups to discuss what the definition of Youth within Girls Brigade. Some great ideas and good discussion came out of this session. The rest of the night was filled with a fun craft night where everyone made drift wood sail boats and of course it wouldn’t be a proper Youth Forum without having a movie.

All the official business was held on Saturday morning, with a very productive AGM and other business sessions. After lunch we all enjoyed the activities that Bridge Valley had to offer. The high ropes course was a big hit and so were the go karts.

Our themed dinner was Saturday night. Everyone dressed up in themed costumes ranging from Sailors, Pirates, Finding Nemo Characters and even book characters. The fun evening programmes were divided up by a Queen’s Award Q&A Panel where the girls got to ask questions of our four panellists Elizabeth Dickens, Megan Connolly, Michele Blackler and myself. This was an awesome session that sparked the interests of many girls.

Jess ran a great evening programme including Giant Guess Who and Taylor Swift or Lamentations. Of course after the fun games there was another couple of movies.

Sunday brought a close to the weekend with our closing ceremony, where Michael brought another message about Jonah. We officially commissioned Jess Goodwin as National Youth Rep and Rebecca Griffiths as National Youth Rep Elect.

Overall Youth Forum was totally awesome! It was so cool to see so many new faces and fresh perspectives.

Although my time as National Youth Rep is up Youth Forum 2015 definitely won’t be my last Youth Forum.
